I don’t know WHAT it was, but I’m just in the mood for some stories about CATS. Are you? Luckily, for you insomniacs out there, I’ve got a few free ones to serve up.
Auggie’s Nighttime Adventures
Follow along with the floofy queen of the house as she enjoys a night of top secret cat business while her people sleep. Narrated by the incomparable Simon Mattacks.
Tabitha’s Night Out
Get ahead of pumpkin spice mania with this atmospheric Halloween black cat prowl through a New England neighborhood. Voiced to perfection by Heather Foster.
Children of the Bastet
If Ancient Egypt is your jam, take a trip back in time to hear about the Cat Goddess Bastet, who absolutely didn’t take crap from any backward dudes. Written by one of my awesome colleagues, this story is voiced by the soothing Abbe Opher.
Wishing you sweet dreams and sassy feline vibes.

I’m currently on the coast of Maine. I’m always happy to be here, but it’s a foggy, rainy day and it put me in the mood to share some of my favorite lazy-days-of-summer bedtime stories! After all, we’re not yet in the ready-for-pumpkin-spice part of the summer. The best part is still ahead of us! Yearning for that sleepy, warm feeling? Say no more. Here are a few to try.
Restful Days by the Sea
I based this story on a particular beach I love on the Maine coast, and it’s beautifully read by Heather Foster. You’ll follow along with two friends who have a room just blocks from the sand, in a vintage seaside hotel. Spend a lazy day with them, listening to the surf…
The Sleepy History of the Deck Chair
This fabulous historical piece was written by my colleague Jo Steer. Let show host Thomas Jones walk you through the surprisingly interesting history of the chair that has accompanied us all on many a summer adventure. I dare you to stay awake until the end!
A Swim at the Secret Quarry
This story is loosely based on a real quarry in New England, although I’ll never let on where it is! Travel along with Maddie as she spends a hot day enjoying the solitude of a swimming hole few people can find. Voiced by the soothing Vanessa Labrie.
Relaxing at the Victorian Seaside
If time travel is your thing, don’t miss this lovely trip to the Victorian seaside in England. Written by Jo Steer and beautifully narrated by the fabulous Simon Mattacks, it’s sure to make you forget your modern worries.
An Edwardian Garden Party in Bar Harbor
Voiced by the oh-so-soothing Arif Hodzic, this particular story has been very popular on the YouTube channel! This visualization will take you back in time from modern day Bar Harbor Maine, into its toney past, when the rich and famous relaxed together on the lawns of stately mansions.

Just a few days to Christmas! If you’re feeling bummed out by windy rainstorms, let me whisk you away to more picturesque places while you drift off to sleep. Here are a few cheerful, snow-filled stories to boost your holiday mood.
An Evening at a German Christmas Market
Travel to the dead center of Christmas cheer with a cozy trip to a traditional German Christkindlmarkt. There will be beautiful crafts, delicious foods, and seasonal music to celebrate the season. Read (beautifully) by Simon.
A Magical Night Inside the Christmas Village
Have you ever wished you could spend an evening inside one of those TV holiday movies, walking streets of the perfect small town? Travel along with our main character as she has a very vivid dream about doing just that. Read by Get Sleepy host Thomas.
A Snowy Evening at the New York Public Library
Not interested in Christmas stuff, but still into the wintry vibe? Experience a dream nighttime visit to the flagship branch of the New York Public Library. Its two sentinel lions will be your friendly guides as you use your all-access ID to wander the halls of this famous Beaux Arts landmark, experiencing it in snowy solitude. Read by Thomas.
Gretel’s Sweet Dream
If you’re in a fairytale frame of mind, this one might be for you! I’ve rewritten Hansel and Gretel so that it has all the sweets and none of the cannibalism. No, seriously. Read by Vanessa.
December Stories for Sleep
If you make it through all these, check out my December post from last year for a couple more! As always, if you prefer, you can find Get Sleepy on any podcast platform you normally use, and listen there. Happy Holidays!
If you’re looking to bring the wintry atmosphere for your bedtime story, I’ve got a new one for you. I very loosely adapted an old Polish tale called The Glass Castle and it’s been beautifully narrated by the host of Get Sleepy, Thomas Jones. My version follows a plucky village lad named Jamie, as he tries to climb a mysterious icy berg nobody else has been able to summit. Supposedly, there is a princess at the top. But can he make it?
If I’ve done my job, you’ll be asleep too soon to find out, but give it a try! As always, you can find Get Sleepy on any podcast platform (this story is free!) and the YouTube link is below.
